Chennai super kings

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

There is something interesting in every team. Dhoni will bring money, atatus and advertisement revenue for chennai and also crowd. Andrew will be famous by sheer curiosity. So whatever written on his shirt will attract maximum eyeballs. He along with adam and lakshman will bring crowds for hyderabad. Delhi is pinning on sehwag and gambhir. Ganguly will have ricky and shahrukh and they will ensure full stands in kolkatta. Mihali is a young and glamourous team heavy in bowling and depending on Yuvaraj, sangakaree and jayawardena. They also have Tom Moody as coach. Mumbai will depend on Sachin’s magic ans jayasuriya’s batting. Pollock and uttapa should shine to make them formidable. Chennai has mathew hayden, Murali Joginder fleming Oram and others. So so far very good. Now it is just a month and a half away. Hope the franchisee’s work to get revenue. And if they do that will bring more success for this format. The full team selected in yesterday’s bid for chennai Superkings are as under.
M.S. Dhoni
$1.5 million
Jacob Oram $675,000
Albie Morkel $675,000
Suresh Raina $650,000
Muralitharan $600,000
Matthew Hayden $375,000
Stephen Fleming $350,000
Parthiv Patel $325,000
J. Sharma $225,000
Makhaya Ntini $200,000

The Chennai IPL franchisee seems to have the most balanced of teams (again on paper) and what with the possibility of some talented youngsters joining the fray, the Chennai team may perhaps start as the favourites for the IPL tourney when it gets underway.

The hand of V B Chandrasekhar is seen in the choices (though the purse strings must have obviously been controlled by N Srinivasan, the head hocho of India Cements which is the franchisee rights holder of the team).

As a national selector, VB was the one responsible for blooding Mahendra Singh Dhoni into the team in 2002. And it was no surprise yesterday that he upped the ante for Dhoni and fetched the highest amount for him.

How Dhoni was bid is interesting. [Thanks: Newstodaynet.com]

The bidding process was very interesting and very hard fought. Chennai managed to pip Mumbai for Dhoni because of the fact that it (Chennai) had the luxury of not having to pay any ‘icon’ player.

It was part of Chennai gameplan to go for broke right from the start and secure Dhoni as he can end up as the surrogate ‘icon’ player in Chennai.

It was a classic master move, and on a day when a total of $42 million (USD) had been spent on 76 cricketers, the talking point continued to be Dhoni’s buy for $1.5 million.

The bid for Dhoni went down to the last ball, to use a cricketing analogy, starting from the base price of $400,000. By the time the bids crossed the $900,000 mark, only two teams were in the running: Mumbai and Chennai. And then it went for broke, pitching its bid at $1 million. This also kind of set the bar for the rest of the day.

Anway, Mumbai upped its offer too. It is here that the Chennai team, showing skills that would have been great success at a poker table, bid around $1.2 million, and feigned a body language that it couldn’t go further.

The Reliance Mumbai team pegged its offer at $1.3 million, perhaps believing that it had clinched its man.

But Chennai quickly moved for the kill, making abid for Dhoni at $1.5 million, knowing full well that Mumbai would be caught in a cleft stick as it had also take into account its pay-out for the ‘icon’ player (15 per cent more than this).

With Dhoni on its side, the Chennai Superkings can hope to levearge his presence both on and off the field.

Think of the sponsorship deals that is possible with him around, said one leading marketeer.

Player transfers for higher fees is also a possibility later on. This is the fee for just one season, and players can be sold next year.

Andrew symonds the second highest definetly benefitted by the controversies and the eagerness of Mumbai to have him along with Harbhajan raised his bid and again like Dhoni, they lost him because of cash limit crunch but this time to Hyderabad. Cricket is getting more interesting than films. No wonder Shah rukh and Preiti have Joined IPL

Andrew symonds open letter to Harbhajan

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

Dear Bhajji,

Hi, How are you today. I am writing this letter to express my gratitude for saying what I heard, or for saying something which made me hear what I heard. That animal has got me one more million.

I am really shocked but now I understand the power of that Hindu god. I uttered the word, which I thought you said more than you, because I had to complain. And thus I get more than you, In fact much more than Ricky also. Can you please suggest any one temple of the god near Hyderabad? I plan to build a temple in Australia and may be sport a dollar with this new icon. The whole Australia woke up today to understand the power of your God. And now I know what is in a name.

I have started loving your country. You people are great. First you call me names, then pardon HOGG and now make me a millionaire. No other country has ever done this and I am sure will never do.

The only thing I am worried now is the envy and anger in our dressing room, which may happen now. But I am sure HE will take care. He sent you in time to utter what I heard or may be utter what you said you did, but resulting in me hearing what I said you said and thus made me utter his race more than anyone else in world cricket. And see I have reaped benefits. Now I wonder how Dhoni got more than me.

Well see you in India.

Jai Hanuman.

Yours sledgingly,

Andrew.

ps: This is not what he wrote, but what he would have written if he ever wrote to harbhajan.

INDIA CREATES HISTORY

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

Breaking News: India has won the Perth test by 72 runs. This is the best reply to Australia’s bullying’s in Sydney. Now Australia will require 17 consecutive test victories to break and create a record.Australia, needing 413 to win, were 340 for all out with 72 runs short of the target. India became the first country from the sub-continent to have defeated Australia at Perth. The Aussies have been forced to taste defeat at W.A.C.A for the first time in 10 years. It was India, who put brakes on Steve Waugh’s record streak and it’s again India who have quashed Ponting’s chances to be the skipper with the most consecutive Test wins. Beating Australia also becomes all the more remarkable especially after being 2-0 down in the series and the on and off field events that could have easily taken the focus away from the game.Anil Kumble said after the win: “Brilliant effort by team, it is special to win at Perth,’WE’LL SQUARE SERIES’ Everyone contributed in this win.
IRFAN PATHAN WHO TOOK THREE WICKETS AND SCORED WELL IS THE MAN OF THE MATCH. He scored 46 and 28 and took two wickets in first innings.
This weekend all news channels will be in a very happy mood and will compete with cricket comments and glorious praise on kumble boys. The advertisers and sponsors will be making merry.
Fox sports news:AUSTRALIA have again crashed back to earth at the hands of India after the tourists capped a superb performance at the WACA Ground with victory in the third Test by 72 runs.

Chasing 413 to extend their winning streak to 17, Australia could never mount a prolonged challenge at their shot at history, and were all out for 340 after some late slogging by the tailenders.

Just like they did in Kolkata in 2001, India snapped an Australia winning streak of 16, and like that win, this victory will rate as one of their best of modern times.

well raj, i’ll be interested in your comments given the dreadful decisions against hussey and symonds in this innings. do you reckon we should spit the dummy like the Indian team in the second test and claim bias, demanding that umpires are dropped ? should we threaten to boycott the next match? i think you’ll find the aussie team has somewhat more dignity and sportsmanship than that. it’s always interesting comparing reactions in similar situations.

Yeah Dave, you do that (Boycott i.e.) and while you are at it, take a look at the Sachin and Dhoni LBW dismissals also. Same mistakes, different teams - so it evens out I guess, unlike Sydney where it was Umpires and Australia 9 - India 1.

knoew someone will ask this question to the Indian supporters…. But you have to admit that these are common mistakes that umpires make in all games..The ones in sydney were a bit too much…(Ever seena n umpire asking the fielding captain whther or not to give out)… (Ever seen the 3rd umpire giving not out inspite of the whole world watching it on slow motion )… Coming back to Perth test, the umpires gaveTendulakt out when he was not…. even if umpires make mistakes, they are okay as long they are not all made against one team.. BTW, I’m from a neutral country and only love GOOD cricket, no matter who is playing it…

For all comments see The Sunday Times

Adding insult to injury, According to the ICC Code of Conduct regulations governing over-rate penalties, the Australian players were fined five per cent of their match fees for every over their side failed to bowl in the allotted time. The captain was fined double that amount. So, Ponting was fined 20 per cent of his match fee while the other Aussie players were fined 10 per cent of their match fee
