This is our first review. Jodi number one, mastana mastana and manadamyulada are three similar programmes screened in Vijay, Sun and Kalaignar TV respectively. All three programmes are dance competition for budding TV artistes. While Jodi number one is screening it’s season Two the other two are new for their channel.
1. Judges

Jodi number one has simbhu,Sangeetha and Master Sundaram as their regular Judges. They also have special Judges for every show. They are all independent in their judgement and their comments some times are controversial which is also aired giving more spice to the programme. They conduct themselves very well, their entry is very professional and they also come to the stage to hug and dance with best performers all adding glamour and spice to the programme.

Manadu myuladu has Three famous Judges. Simran, Master Kala and Master Brinda. They also show Grace and Simran looks Beautiful. However their Judgements so far has been more or less unanimous. May be more to come. Calibre wise they match the jodi’s judges. However Jodi number one judges are more in command. Some may feel the judges of jodi number one are partial and some may feel they are arrogant. But I feel it is a perfect game plan. Many times our judgement coincides with their’s and that is enough Rest is spice.

Sun TV’s Mastana Mastana is very bad comparatively. Master Tharun and Meena are Judges. Meena literally translates what tharun says again in Tamil. And poor they even the performance is mediocre.
2. Hosts

Divya Darshini is easily the best compere in south India. She is cute in command over the language and her presence itself is great for any programme she conducts. Kalakka povadu aru ’s success in part one and Two has her and sethu as main reasons. And now she is again rocking in Jodi number one. Deepak is again a wonderful host. He is bubbly, witty and matches and blends with Divya very well. Both handle their Job very well. The hosts of other two programmes do not deserve mention atleast as of now.
3. Stage
All three stages look very similar with slight edge to jodi number one.
4.Participants
Tinku,Prithiviraj and venkat pairs are rocking in Jodi number one. The KKK pair is catching up very fast. So is Dhilip pair. In manadu myuladu Raghav and preetha are rocking. In Mastana Tarika and suhasini are good. They all are doing what they can do best. Manadu myuladu song selection is the best.

Two programmes i saw this week made me stunned and puzzled. Stunned by its quality and perfection and puzzled why the rich Tamil channels do not make such programmes.
One is ‘Combating Terror’ in National geographic channel. I saw two episodes. One is Hijacked - an episode about how the Air France hijack was solved.
The second was about Munich Olympic massacre. It was as if i was seeing a Movie. Great. It will be re telecast so don’t miss it. The programme showcases the technologies being developed internationally to combat future terrorist attacks.

The second programme was Indian Idol grand finale. My goodness what richness and sophistication and speed in a live show. Vijay TV the master of Tamil game shows can give us better than now.

The fight is shifting from the screen to the roads. Sun TV is taking the DTH route and has decided to abandon the net workers it has very carefully recruited. A new technology with very new and advanced features is being offered for pittance. You can’t blame Sun for this. The cable TV operators are switching sides and are flexing muscles against their mentor. In many places sun network is off. And DTH is the future. With the government planning to start its own cable network this is the right time to start DTH by SUN. But in their advertisement Vijay TV has no mention and so are the popular English news channels. This will go against their services. The cable TV operators should fight this business wise and not by blocking services. DTH was always in sun’s cards.One more reason why i suspect whether the fight between is real?
Recently I was in Nellore. Kalaigner TV telecast quality is extremely poor. Sun Tv was not available on Saturday and up to sunday evening in many parts of tamilnadu. This is fair because it is war?

My mother will never allow me to have the remote. She does not like me changing channels when her serials are on. I normally do not see serials regularly so I wait for the breaks when I like to change the channels. My argument is you may miss something good shown elsewhere. Her argument is you never come back in time. Usually she is right when I come back to her channel it is usually a minute or around delayed. She says she wants to see the whole serial. My argument is so what if you miss a minute. She has now bought a TV for her own and does not allow me to come near it. There are many such faithful and kalignar TV is going to find it difficult to break this. Serials have always been Sun’s strength. Kolangal and arasi are favorites for many. Now at nine thirty in kalaignar TV it is kushboo , a sundar K.Vijayan’s serial with music by illaiaraja. Will Kushboo dethrone Radhika or will Radhika finish her serial and switch over. The war has just begun.

There are also many who feel the fight is not real. And even if so may not last long. Sun TV still operates from anna arivalayam and the marans are not flexing their muscles. Before their split it was a weopen in hands of opposition that because of sun TV DMK is going slow in cauvery and mullaiperiyar dispute. Now that is forgotten. Was the split a melodrama to get this result? Now eighty percent of kalaignar TV staff is from SUN TV and may be soon kalaignar TV will gobble Raj TV. And then it is monopoly.

Congress and the communists started this trend. Let us be both ruling and opposition party. May be this is similar strategy. The first and second from same family. Well does it concern us? We have the benefit of good programs and so long, so far so good.

When I saw cnn-ibn, NDTV and Times Now, today morning at half past nine just before leaving to office, all three were braking News that Dhoni is tipped to be the captain. Till 1.40 PM there is no confirmation. All three claimed sources said Dhonis is the next captain. Most of the times it is the same story in all the channels. And this does not necessarily mean three views of the same matter. IT is mostly same view in three channels. CNN-IBN and Timesnow are clones of NDTV. But now in viewership CNN-IBN has overtaken NDTV and TImes now is still distant fourth.

There are lessons from this for kalaignar TV and Sun TV.

Sakala Kala Bhavan on Kalaignar TV, Thursdays, 22.00.
(Kalaignar TV, Thursdays, 22.00) Beginning September 20, the story is spun around nine characters, the inmates of Sakala Kala Bhavan, a lodge owned by Meenakshi. Each tries to take over the reins leading to hilarious situations.
The cooks Palghat Chellappa and Nayudupet Narasamma and a distant relative Thappu Dharmarajan join the team to make the episodes more colourful and humorous.

Mullum Malarum (Kalaignar TV, weekdays, 11.30 a.m.)
Here’s a new mega serial that pays tribute to womanhood.
As the title suggests the episodes will depict the sad and happy sides of a woman’s life.
What happens when marriage, which is supposed to bring happiness to a girl’s life, becomes a bitter chapter? Where will she turn for solace? How will her parents react to it? The story seeks to find answers to such questions.
Produced by Venus Studio, the cast includes Vishwa, Shyam Ganesh, newcomers Rajeshwari and Nagesh, Gauthami, and Revathi Sankaran.
Agni Pravesam Jaya TV, (weekdays, 11.30 a.m.) Directed by Revathi Krishna, the serial portrays the trials and tribulations of the protagonist, Chandra, and her three sisters, all daughters of Somanathan. Hostility and alienation are what they find and the marriage only seems to make matters worse.
The hardships they face at the hands of their husbands force them to fight against male chauvinism. The story takes a sudden twist when the truth is revealed that Chandra is not the daughter of Somanathan.
Does this make Chandra isolate herself from the family of Somanathan or continue the fight against injustice? Stay on as the story unfolds the answers. - Thanks: THE HINDU

Jaya TV will telecast the Brahmotsavam festival, to be held at Tirupati, from September 14 to 24. The ten-day fest will be aired at 6 a.m. For those who might miss to watch it, the programme encores the same day at 5.30 p.m.

Sun chutti TV is doing well in Tamilnadu, if TAM is correct.
